2012 Year-End Awards - Song of the Year

Wish Lists, Best of list, Worst of list, It's the list time of year, really anything you can think of.   Here we will take a stab at the Root Down In The Shadow - Song of the Year. With tons of great music out there I decided to break these down into a few categories.   We'll have Pop/Rap , Funk , Expecting more in '13 , Rock/Metal/Alt Metal , Local , Fun & Old School .  But to get this started right, we'll kick off with the basic Song Of The Year.   Everyone should have heard these by now, and should love them.   Check the links.. some of these songs are FREE DOWNLOADS!!!! In no particular order... 1. "TEBOWIE" by Jimmy Fallon  When I first heard about this song, I wanted nothing to do with it, as the Tebow phenomenon was just so tiresome.  But after I bought Blow Your Pants Off for the wife, for her anniversary present, I couldn't get enough of this son.  Jimmy Fallon completely nails this song, including an incre...

2012 Cover Songs of the Year - Daytrotter Edition

I've never been a fan of end of the year lists that down allow you to experience the selections.  Just reading about some great songs doesn't allow validation of the list.  For this brief list, I placed a playlist on the Daytrotter.com website, so everyone can hear it! You do need to register for the site to listen to the list, but it is so worth it.  For $2/month you get access to some of the best sessions out there for live music PERIOD.  You can register for a free trial, to see how great it is on your own.  If you are not interested in the site.. Here's a rundown of the list! Although a short list, I didn't want to waste time with so-so songs.   The first two are from the must have session, Mumford & Sons and Friends . #1 Reincarnation , is a Roger Miller standard. In this take, the "friend" of Mumford & Sons is Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes . It's such a simple and pure song, that I find my self singing it to my daughter durin...

Free Song Alert - Laura Gibson 'La Grande'

Day 6 of my quest to share free music once a day until I run out of sources. Be sure to tell me what you think here or at the Facebook site .  Today's artist is Laura Gibson.   Today's song is a eerie haunt carrying the sexiness of Portishead while keeping simple folk sensibilities.  The song is free from two sources.  First and foremost it's available through Spinner.com's MP3 song of the day.  More recently at the KEXP song of the day .  Laura Gibson 'La Grande' I know little about Laura Gibson, apparently missing a January show of hers at Philadelphia's Johnny Brenda's. I am planning on spending some quality time, watching her new NPR Tiny Desk Concert in the very near future. (La Grande starts @3;27) Turns out this is her second tiny desk concert, with this being the first: A collection of songs can also be found at the D aytrotter site Happy hunting, be sure to post what you think!!!
