Somehow Sofar Sounds : Philadelphia is hitting their 4th Anniversary.
The now world-wide phenomenon was a few shy of twenty cities world-wide
when Philadelphia joined the ranks. These days, the shows are all over
the globe and it seems like there are just shy of twenty dates in NYC
alone each month. It all started in London, back in 2009, and slowly
spread during the next two years to New York, Paris, DC, Los Angeles,
Pune India, Houston, Brighton, Seattle, New Dehli, Sydney, Madrid,
Berlin, Toronto, Dallas-Forth Worth, and Glasgow before hitting the City
of Brotherly Love.
During the next 10 days I'm going to look back at four years of Sofar Sounds: Philadelphia trying to give my version of the best videos. Please comment and share what were your favorites!
#2 Little Comets - The Blur, The Line and The Thickest of Onions
We've already featured two other videos from this particular July 2014 show with Satellite Hearts and The Gallerist reeling off great performances. What could out do them? How about an internationally touring band with a song of activism and compassion done beautifully with a sharp video to match?
Check out Little Comets with "The Blur, The Line, and The Thickest of Onions" from Salt and It's Gentle Corollary
#1 Hezekiah Jones - Cannonball
You could call it coincidence that five of my favorite humans are in this video and Hezekiah Jones has a new album being debuted tomorrow at Ardmore Music Hall.
You could also recognize that this a fabulous song by that's fun to watch and fun to listen to with a lovely setting and even more lovely solos. Seriously the drummer, Kevin Killen, has a 50 second guitar solo, how awesome is that? Brad Hinton Banjo solo & Kiley Ryan fiddle solo to boot! You can't forget Phil D'Agostino plucking some serious bass strings and Hezekiah Jones himself holding down the tune.
Check out "Cannonball" from Have You Seen Our New Fort?
Countless thanks to the Sofar Sounds: Philadelphia family for letting me hang around each month and take part. Carolyn Lederach, Ken Winneg, and Davis Howley for putting them together and running the show. Bob Sweeney and Lindsey Borgman for being amazing with the cameras. Thanks to all the volunteers, hosts, and bands for making it memorable.
And thanks to all the incredible artists that arguably belonged in the list, such as Sean Hoots, Caleb Hawley, Levee Drivers, Pine Barons, Vita and the Woolf, Commonwealth Choir, Kwesi K, Kingsley Flood, Alright Jr, and so many more. Thanks to the amazing bands like Gill Landry, Lou, Max Garcia Conover, Arc Iris, and Tall Heights with videos too new to be included.
See ya tonight!
