Toy Soldiers ticket giveaway contest - Pittsburgh show @ Club Cafe April 18th

Philly indie-party-rock band Toy Soldiers are coming to a town near you with pals from NC, Holy Ghost Tent Revival. Philly fans know them well, as they just won "INDIE ROCK BAND OF THE YEAR" at the Tri State Indie Awards.  Now it's time for the rest of you to know them as well.  They are hitting the road with a batch of new material for their upcoming album The Maybe Boys.

For the Philadelphia stop, fans will get to see the premier of the Toy Soldiers tour film The Maybe Trails by Seth Klinger

Toy Soldiers – a lively & hard-working band formed in 2007 by frontman Ron Gallo, started out as just a duo, fluctuated between a cast of upwards of 12 players, then eventually settled into a solid 5-piece who love a good song and dance with no pretense or wall between the band and audience (as members often times ending up in the crowd). The group, consisting of Gallo (lead vocals, guitar), Dominic Billett (drums), Bill McCloskey (bass), Matt Kelly (guitar), and Luke Leidy (keys), spent most of 2012 playing hundreds of shows up and down the East Coast and in their hometown of Philadelphia, tearing through dive bars, festival stages and even theaters with their soulful brand of rock n' roll music.

2013 will see the beginning of a new chapter, with the Fall release of their second full-length, entitled The Maybe Boys. The album was recorded with producer Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man) and bridges the gap between all of their previous efforts, combining the group's earnest and eclectic songwriting style with the explosive energy of their live show.

Named one of the “Top Bands to Watch in 2013” by USA Today, Toy Soldiers’ have no intention of slowing their roll as they move ahead into the year, continuing to spread the music and inevitable good times.

To celebrate this new tour, we have a Ticket Giveaway Contest  at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh, my favorite venue in my hometown!  Ironically, I first saw the Toy Soldiers winning tickets via WXPN here in Philadelphia. Now is your turn!

Here's the deal.  On Facebook, (depending on your privacy restrictions), you can either type this phrase on your page or the Root Down in the Shadow page;

"Hey Root Down In The Shadow my favorite Philadelphia band is ________ and I'm looking forward to having a new favorite once I see Toy Soldiers at Club Cafe

If I can't see it on my Root Down page, you aren't officially entered in the contest.

One entry per person, but if you post this on your friends pages and they enter... maybe they'll enter and take you with them!
Winner gets guest listed +1

New Release Q&A - Sonja Sofya answers some questions for "Patterns We Know"

The buzz has been all about Sonja Sofya and her new album The Patterns We Know .  Tonight Sonja Sofya and band take to the stage at Boot & Saddle in South Philly along with a great line-up featuring Arc Divers and the dove and the wolf. Right off the top we have some great reasons to expect great things from this album, such as produced by Ross Bellenoit at Turtle Studios and excellent musicianship by guitarist/producer Ross Bellenoit, bassist Jonathan Colman , and drummers Matt Scarano and Jonas Oesterle . But we at Root Down In The Shadow wanted to dig further and see what Sonja had to say about the album. Here's 3 questions we had for the songstress Sonja Sofya: RDITS: What was the impetus to make a full length record and why did you pick the people you worked with? At a certain point, playing and writing as much as I was, it felt like the logical next step, but I waited for a while, trying to find the "perfect" time to go into the stud...

Bands Pick The Bands - 2016 XPoNential Music Festival Presented by Subaru - Artists Preview

Wooo Hooooo It's XPoNential Fest Time!!!!  Every year WXPN brings a ton of great bands and artists to the Wiggins Park shore in Camden, NJ.  With so many bands on the line-up it's daunting to figure out which bands to see.  Fortunately, the way WXPN does the line-ups you CAN make it to every band should you choose.  However, we all know it's going to be hot as hell.  Not quite as hot as 2011 with the 100 degree days, but still super hot.   Luckily for us, some of the festival performers have put in their two cents for which bands they are excited about. Rosemary Fiki   starts the fest at 4pm today on the JerseyArts.Com Marina Stage. Let's see what she's recommending: Band Most Excited to Share the Festival Stage with : This is our first time time performing at XPoNential so to be completely honest, I'm super stoked to share the Festival stage with everyone! If I absolutely had to choose, I would say The Districts. We actually share...

New Chris Kasper single - City By the Sea

Here's a wonderfully bluesy tease to the upcoming Chris Kasper album.   New single "City By The Sea", is just enough to keep fans from getting restless, while he tours with Carsie Blanton along the West Coast.  Hopefully there will be some local dates soon, as 2017 seems so far off right now.
