Next Sunday morning, at the Newport Folk Festival, before the Carolina Chocolate Drops start @ 12:40, there are thee choices to start the day. I've narrowed my choices down to two, as I am completely unfamiliar with the Seeger Clogging Allstars. This was an easy choice up until a month ago, as I hadn't heard Brown Bird yet either. But, I picked up The Sounds of Ghosts EP by Brown Bird, and now I'm torn.
This has been my most discussed decision so far. Feel free to comment, but here's my list of contributing factors for each act so far:
Brown Bird: Harbor Stage 11:30am-12:15
David Lamb & Morganeve Swain make up the dark duo Brown Bird.
+David Lamb has one of those special & unique voices that could sound great no matter what he's singing. Just as the Decemberists can lull you with a lullaby about the knife wielding 'Shankill' Butchers, or a revengeful Mariner, David can soothe while singing about anything.
+Morganeve Swain wonderfully completes the songs with fiddle, cello, upright bass and/or backup vocals.
+ A sample from the upcoming release Salt for Salt due out October 18th 'FINGERS TO THE BONE'
Brown Bird - Fingers to the Bone by supplyanddemand
+Brown Bird performs on WRNI
- I've only been exposed to the The Sounds of Ghosts E.P. and a sampling from the 'net.
+ The Sounds of Ghosts E.P. is fantastic getting 4.5 stars out of 5.
+ David Lamb has a killer beard!
- I can wait until an intimate World Cafe Live show in September to get a better introduction.
David Wax Museum - Forts Stage 11:40-12;25
+ David Wax Museum has an incredible buzz going for them right now. If you read any of the articles lately, it's hard to deny seeing them live.
+ Best Local Band by Improper Bostonian
+ Suz Slezak plays a quijada, "a percussion instrument made from a donkey’s jawbone"
(wikipedia)
+ How can you beat these lyrics:
Excerpt from 'Yes, Maria, Yes'
+ Tiny Desk Concert w/ NPR staring David Wax Museum
Chuchumbe by David Wax Museum
+ A sweet Daytrotter session for a taste of David Wax Museum live
- I can always catch their live show at the Philadelphia Folk Fest, August 21st!
+ I won't have to move before catching the Carolina Chocolate Drops at the Fort Stage @12:40
This decision may as well go right up until the show starts. Currently even with the 3 other folks I am going with we don't yet have a consensus. It might end up with majority rule. What did you decide?

Excerpt from 'Yes, Maria, Yes'
Your broken taillight eyes
I get too near
Time runs counter-clockwise
In your rear view mirror
Yes, Maria , Yes
No, Maria, No
Your careless heart
Invites me in just to see me go
You invite me into your kitchen
For huitlacoche and armadillo
I talk, talk talk you don't listen
You've had your fill
