It may seem that my site has been taken over by Amazon lately with the overload of links. But with a post (2 actually, 1 more is coming), have I gone over the top? I offer an explanation for what appears to be pandering. The purpose of my blog is to help people get exposed to new music, that they might otherwise not get the chance to see or hear about. I like to bring to the forefront opportunities to hear, see or purchase new music. Amazon has recently upped their efforts to do the same thing in my opinion.
For one, they make it super easy for me to link a source for fans to purchase albums. But this isn't the record store that I grew up with. When something is popular, it seems like prices are going down. Before Amazon.com started their $5 albums, the best sales were Best Buy & Target discounting albums on the first week of release, and a variety of sites free materials. However, Amazon brings out the $5 albums after people have had a chance to get to know an album a little bit.

Ray Lamontange - Trouble |
Exhibit A. Three Grammy nominated artists Ray LaMontange,
Kings Of Leon
& Arcade Fire. Where can you find a break out album for each of them? On Amazon.com for $5!!!
|
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire |
|
The Head & The Heart |
|
Freelance Whales - Weathervanes |
You could argue that those albums are old, and that they are just cheaper to sell them off. But for one, it's digital so there really isn't a stock to go through, but also check out, Exhibit B: two up & coming Newport Folk Festival bands, Freelance Whales
or The Head & the Heart
? Where can they be found? That's right Amazon! For $5!!
|
Fleet Foxes |
Alright, so we have the excuse of getting rid of old stuff and bands folks don't know. What about Exhibit C: Fleet Foxes with
Helplessness Blues? This album is on many, many top 10 lists for 2011. Clearly Amazon is vested in bringing great music to the masses for low cost.
Finally, if you don't give a crap about new music, but want to build your collection, you can't go wrong with $5 offerings of Van Halen, Alanis Morisette, the Doors, or Johnny Cash
With all that said. Try it out for yourself. Make sure to sign up for the weekly newsletter so you can get reminded of the cheap monthly deals and the free music available each week!
