I first mentioned Elizabeth Mitchell in a previous Molly Song of the Week 'Jenny Jenkins' by Lisa Loeb. As remarked, in 2003 Lisa Loeb had teamed up with her musician pal Elizabeth Mitchell to create Catch the Moon. This was Lisa Loeb's first children's album, however this was nothing new to Elizabeth Mitchell as she had already had put out two kids albums. In '98 she released You Are My Flower, and in '02 she released You Are My Sunshine.
Unlike the duet album with Lisa Loeb which gets a little silly with songs 'Little Red Caboose', 'Stop and Go', or 'Catch The Moon', Mitchell's solo albums are a little more refined. Her 2006 release, You Are My Little Bird starts off with this week's Molly Song of the Week, 'Little Liza Jane.' The approximately 100 year old traditional is the standout track from the album. The collection is varied from Bob Marley cover 'Three Little Birds' to Woody Guthrie remake 'Who's My Pretty Baby'.
'Little Liza Jane' is a simple song to the clapping beat. Elizabeth sings the melody with her husband Daniel Littleton as backing vocals. To further compliment the sound and focus of the album their daughter Storey also does minor backing vocals.
