Pearl Jam - Song of the Week - Given to Fly

Yield may not be Pearl Jam's most famous album (Ten), nor critically acclaimed album (Vs) but it has been my most favorite Pearl Jam disc to date. Yield straddles the rock and art divide that so many Pearl Jam albums only find themselves on one side of. In my opinion, the album never really took off, as 'Do the Evolution' was featured as the first single with it's graphic comic book style video.

The 'Do The Evolution' video was a bit odd, and there was really nothing in the song that I felt like singing along to... EVER! On the other hand, gems such as the rockin' "Brain of J', ballad 'Low Light'or my favorite 'In Hiding' would have been much better choices from Yield, but didn't really see the light of day.

The one successful track from the 1998 Pearl Jam album was 'Given to Fly'. The song has very powerful imagery for its story. To me, this would have been great with the comic book treatment, showing off the story in an Icarus kind of way

Wooo Hooooo It's XPoNential Fest Time!!!! Every year WXPN brings a ton of great bands and artists to the Wiggins Park shore in Camden, NJ. The buzz has been all about Sonja Sofya and her new album The Patterns We Know . From the desk of Root Down: Greetings Friends! It's been a bit, how've ya been? What's new? I've been gone for some time and I feel that I owe everyone an explanation of where I've been. Honestly, I haven't gone anywhere. Since I've last posted, I've still been frequenting my favorite record store, been hitting up local shows, hosted a few house shows, traveling for special shows, and making music a large part of my life. What I haven't been doing is losing countless hours fretting over knowing every new artist, tweeting, and losing sleep editing articles that spend less time getting read than I spent writing. I can definitively tell you that I'm DONE attempting to make Root Down In The Shadow "a thing" in the music world.
